Anemone-Residence was chosen as one of “the 20 best Villas on the Greek Islands” by Conde Nast Traveller March 2005.
With its courtyard shaded by grapevines, olive and lemon trees, air scented by oregano, mint, thyme and basil plants, and sheltered by whitened stone walls, the lovingly restored Anemone-Residence has retained the architectural characteristics of its island farmhouse roots.
The property consists of two separate houses connected by a courtyard, Anemone Main House and Pyrgaki, the”Little Tower”, with its own entrance from the quiet village street above the property.
The private pool – shaded during the hot summer hours by an ancient olive tree – adds the final touch to a property tailor made for its guests wellness and relaxation.
Anemone-Residence is located in the midst of Poros town, halfway up the little hill, just above St.Constantine’s Church. The upper town’s centre is within a two minutes’ walk. Its picturesque square framed by the baker, butcher and handy grocery store – marked by the unlikely sign “supermarket” – and surrounded by cozy little taverns (restaurants) and overlooked by St. George metropolitan-church is the traditional meeting place of the locals.
Of course Poros’ busy seaside centre is also only a short walk of 5-7 minutes away via several of the many narrow village roads that wind their way through Poros town. Or, guests of Anemone Residence can rent a scooter to explore the island and travel from the secluded residence to the bustling centre of activity along the harbor without exertion.
You’ll enter Anemone House by way of the flower brimmed courtyard that’s shaded by towering grapevines. A short stone staircase that’s so typical of the architecture of this region leads to the beamed front door located on the second floor. You’ll feel immediately at home in the living room, with its walls painted light blue like the sea, and furnished in comfortable dark wood antiques accented by hand woven multicolored cushions.
But what will take your breath away is the view opening before you through the balcony doors: the Bay of Poros below and in the distance the “Sleeping Lady”, a mountain formation that is said to have inspired the 19th century sculptor Chalepas to create his masterpiece with the same name on view in Athens.
The spacious living room covers the entire second floor, where you’ll enjoy the comfortable sitting and dining areas as well as a small but fully equipped kitchenette. A half bath completes the comfort of this floor.
On the ground floor below, accessible through a spiral staircase, you’ll find the master bedroom with its romantic chandelier, fireplace, and – through white lace curtains – view of your private pool shaded by the ancient olive tree in the property’s garden.
The spacious en suite bathroom offers a Jacuzzi bathtub.
As resident of Anemone House you’ll have the exclusive use of the property’s swimming pool and outdoors sitting and dining area. The pool, though small at 6 x 3 meters, provides ample opportunity for exercise against a smooth adjustable current.
The Anemone house hosts up to four persons, through an oversize queen size (160 cm x 200) bed in the master bedroom and a junior size (125 cm x 200) sofa bed in the living room.
When I discovered the property, the former sty located on the properties’ southeast corner was nothing but a ruin. It once had hosted the farmers’ most valuable property: the donkey.
In its place we constructed the “Little Tower”, a cozy two room hide-away in the shape of a tower that’s ideal for a romantic vacation for two.
Pyrgaki’s upper room is entered through the door from the upper village street and offers stunning view of the Bay of Poros. You’ll enjoy its comfortable sitting/dining area, a queen size double bed, modern kitchenette, and a lovely balcony overlooking the village and sea below. Through a spiral staircase you enter the lower floor where you’ll find a cozy living room with sofa bed, wardrobes, a modern bathroom with shower/hydro massage and access to a lovely veranda with sunbeds.
Little Tower has been completely newly deorated in 2014. It offers separate AC in each room, wifi, satelite TV, radio/cd player and hosts up to three persons, through a queen size double bed in the upper room and a single size (90 cm x 200 cm) sofa bed in the ground floor living room.
