Popular with families, Monastiri beach extends along a loosely cupped bay at the foot of the Monastery of Zoodohos Pigi. It’s a good place to spend the day, alternately dips in the cool, clear water with a light meal at the beachfront taverna and a walk along the partially-shaded shore or exploring the pine-clad hills over the bay. A swim at Monastiri can be combined with a visit to the monastery, but arrive in proper attire and visit before heading to the beach. With its open vista and eastern orientation, it’s a good choice for late morning or mid-afternoon swims when the sun slants away from the shore. The beach is a mix of coarse sand and smooth pebbles, with a sand and pebble seabed. There are sunbeds and umbrellas.
Getting there: Monastiri is about 4.5 kilometers from Poros Town, with several uphill stretches. It’s best reached by road, either private car, taxi, or bus on the Monastiri line. Transport via water taxi can also be arranged.
